Sweet and lovable Strong Woman Do Bong-soon is on her way

Ah finally, some more updates on Strong Woman Do Bong-soon. I’ve been eagerly anticipating Park Bo-young’s new drama, because it already feels like ages ago when she was cracking us up as a ghost-possessed girl in Oh My Ghostess. This time, she’s in a new rom-com where she plays a woman with superhuman strength, who wishes desperately to become the willowy type of girl her crush is into. Aw no, take a cue from Kim Bok-ju and find a guy who thinks your strength is sexy! I’ll bet you money there’s one in this drama…

The new JTBC drama comes from PD Lee Hyung-min of Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki and writer Baek Mi-kyung of Beloved Eun-dong, and stars Park Bo-young as Do Bong-soon, a young woman born with Herculean strength, who crushes everything she touches if she isn’t careful. She’s got a great appetite and a great personality, and she’s had a crush on Ji-soo (Fantastic) since grade school. Her dream is to become his ideal type—a woman like a cosmos flower.

But thanks to her strength, she manages to get a job as a bodyguard to a snooty second-generation chaebol, played by Park Hyung-shik (Hwarang). Ha, I love that she’s going to be his muscle! He’s the CEO of a gaming company, described as crazy and odd and imperious. Ji-soo, meanwhile, is a righteous stickler for rules, and the drama will be about the love triangle that unfolds as she starts working for the eccentric chaebol.

Park Hyung-shik managed to do a good job of playing a haughty chaebol who actually made me feel for him in High Society, and I’m loving the mix of cockiness and vulnerability in his character in Hwarang right now, so I have high hopes that he’ll be more than just a boring prickly chaebol character in this drama. I’ll love it if he’s a scaredy cat who appreciates the heroine’s physical strength.

The show’s first teaser poster announces that “a pure superhumanly strong woman” is on her way, and Park Bo-young looks all sweet and innocent until you scroll to her feet and see that she’s crushing the floor just by walking on it. She’s so small that the super-strength should be a really comical visual, and I’m anticipating some great gags. Let’s hope there’s also a romance in Do Bong-soon’s future where she doesn’t have to hide her strength to be loved!

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon will air on Fridays and Saturdays on JTBC, and premieres February 24.
