Seo Kang-joon

  • A drama adaptation of the popular Daum web drama From A Distance, A Green Spring has been confirmed, and Seo Kang-joon (Entourage) is considering the lead part. The source material is about twenty-year-olds who are in between youth and adulthood, and Seo’s protagonist is a college junior. He’s a good-looking guy from a first-class family who appears perfect on the outside, but who’s hiding pain on the inside. The drama hasn’t been picked up by a broadcaster yet, but producers are angling for a spot in May. [Osen, Sports Today]
  • Yay for Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim! The show recently hit a high of 26.7% in viewership ratings and a reward vacation has been confirmed for the cast. Although stars Han Seok-kyu and Seo Hyun-jin will not be able to attend due to their schedules, the rest of the group will depart for a trip spanning four nights and five days in Cebu, Philippines on January 20. The show wraps next week with a special cameo appearance by Kim Hye-soo. [Sports Chosun]

  • Junsu, Three Colors of Fantasies

  • Speaking of cameos, Junsu (Scent of a Woman) filmed his guest appearance for the premiere episode of Introverted Boss last week. In the show starring Yeon Woo-jin (Divorce Lawyer in Love) as a shy corporate leader and Park Hye-soo (Age of Youth) as a rookie employee who stirs things up within the company, Junsu will play a top star (named Junsu). Introverted Boss debuts on tvN on January 16. [DongA]
  • There’s finally a schedule in place for Three Colors of Fantasies, the experimental trilogy of mini dramas that was a joint project between MBC and Naver. Each mini drama, grouped by color, will contain three episodes. The first, Star of the Universe, is a “white” and pure romance between a reaper named Byul (played by Suho) and a top star named Woo-joo (played by Ji-woo) which airs January 26. Romance Full of Life, a “green” romance set in the Noryangjin academy district, follows, and Yoon Shi-yoon (Mirror of the Witch) and Jo Soo-hyang (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju) are coupled up beginning February 16. Finally, Queen of the Ring, a “gold” fantasy starring Kim Seul-gi as the possessor of a mysterious ring and Ahn Hyo-seob as a guy who falls for her, will begin March 9. Each episode will also be available on Naver after its broadcast. [Xports News]

  • Rain, Lee Beom-soo, Ohn Joo-wan

  • Lee Beom-soo (Last) will produce and act in the upcoming film Uhm Bok-dong. It’ll be the first film produced by his agency, and the movie will highlight the life of the titular cyclist. Uhm was known for his cycling prowess and his fearlessness during the days of Japanese occupation—he would often compete and win against Japanese racers. Lee will take on the role of Uhm’s coach, while Rain (Come Back, Ajusshi) is considering the role of Uhm. Filming will begin in the next few months and producers are targeting a release before the end of the year. [DongA]
  • He received rave reviews for his performance in last year’s Newsies, and Ohn Joo-wan (Beautiful Gong Shim) is set to return to the stage for a second time. He’s been cast as the famous occupation-era Yoon Dong-ju (Kang Haneul played him in a feature film last year) in the play Yoon Dong-ju, Shoot the Moon, which has been a popular theatrical production since its debut in 2012. Every seat sold out during last year’s run, and with this year being the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth, seats are expected to fill fast. Joining Ohn in the play is Park Young-soo, who has played Dong-ju in prior productions. Yoon Dong-ju, Shoot the Moon hits the stage between March 21 and April 2 at Seoul Arts Center’s CJ Towol Theater. [Osen]
  • The weekend drama Blow Breeze has been extended by three episodes, which will bring the total episode count to 53. The show starring Im Ji-yeon and Sohn Ho-joon has recently garnered ratings as high as 18% and will now air its finale on February 26. [Xports News]

  • Yoon Yeo-jung, Jung Yumi, Ahn Jae-hong

  • Love this cast and am already looking forward to this: Yoon Yeo-jung (Dear My Friends), Jung Yumi (Train to Busan, Discovery of Romance) and Ahn Jae-hong (Answer Me 1988) quietly wrapped filming on Wild Greens Maiden late last year. A source close to the fantasy film described the movie as being similar to a fairy tale, and as a short, but meaningful and joyful project. Yoon stars as spinster who travels from an unknown faraway forest to land on Earth in search of a partner. Jung co-stars as a woman who lives in a remote mountain village tending to wild greens, believing “a man will appear” without effort on her part. Ahn will come to the mountains to bathe and will fall for Jung’s character, so it seems she was right. Wild Greens Maiden is expected to make the rounds at film festivals beginning in September. [Joongang]
  • The cast and crew of Perfect Wife gathered together for their first script read, and stars Go So-young (in her first role in ten years), Yoon Sang-hyun (Shopping King Louis), Jo Yeo-jung (Babysiter), Sung Joon (Madame Antoine), Im Se-mi (Shopping King Louis) and more exchanged new year’s greetings and wrote aegyo-filled notes to viewers. Go is the go-getting housewife, Yoon plays her shrinking husband (who shrinks even more in front of his boss), and the ajumma-mystery-comic (literally how it is described in the press) airs after Hwarang on February 26 on KBS.
